| SEASONS: The fishing area produces fish suitable for fishing all year around. However due to weather conditions during the winter months (December-March) bonefish and permit are somewhat scarce in the flats. All other species abound throughout the year. FLY TACKLE . All of the fishing can be done with light fly-fishing tackle and this is encouraged by the guides. Anglers should bring their own gear. Fly fishermen need to have at least a 1/8 inch rod. Floating lines are the most practical. Use of a sinking line is not necessary as the waters are quite shallow. Popular fly patterns for tarpon, snook, barracuda, snapper and sea trout include: deceivers in various colors, cockroaches, tarpon glow and poppers (sizes 2/0-4 for all patterns). Bonefish and permit fly selections should include: crazy Charlies (root beer, pink, gold, pear), sizes 2/8 crab patterns (mottled brown and green) sizes 4-6. |

CONVENTIONAL TACKLE: Light tackle is the best for this area. Light, number 7 spinning rods with marching reel loaded with 8-10 pounds test (200 yds), work best for bonefish and permit. Live crabs and small jigs with saltwater hooks and 10-15 lb., test (200 yards) should be used on tarpon, snook and barracuda, etc. |
